Cape Breton Crime Stoppers is a Community Awards Program

That offers anonymous tipsters cash awards. It is partnership between the public, the police, and the media. Each has a unique role in making this program work. The public are volunteers from parts of Cape Breton Island who oversee the administer the day to day operation of the program. The police receive and investigate the tipsters information. The media's role is to promote Crime Stoppers and ensure Crime Stoppers stay in the public domain.

Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.

Crime Stoppers provides a telephone number and Web Tips to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies to fight against crime.

 

Callers remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if the information given leads to an arrest or grand jury indictment of a felony offender.
